Your Home Fall Checklist

Digging out sweaters from storage, turning on the heater and ordering a pumpkin spice latte – these are annual tasks most of us instinctively do when fall arrives. But to sit comfortably by the fireplace (or outdoor fire pit!), knowing your home is also prepared for the colder weather, check out our fall home checklist.

Clean & Inspect:

  • Humidifiers for mold
  • Heaters for damage
  • Furnace filters to see if they should be replaced
  • Dryer vent for built-up lint
  • Fire extinguishers to make sure they are current
  • Smoke and CO detectors to see that they are working
  • Chimneys for dust and soot
  • Outside lightbulbs to make sure they are working
  • Gutters and downspouts
  • Roof for damaged shingles or leaky vents

Seal Up:

  • Windows with plastic from the inside
  • Doors leading outside with caulk and weather stripping
  • Garage doors with weather stripping
  • Window air conditioners with spray foam
  • Water lines that run along outer walls with insulation

Protect Your Yard:

  • Disconnect garden hoses and drains
  • Blow out sprinkler system
  • Sprinkle winterize fertilizer on lawn
  • Use Bayer Tree & Shrub for ash borers and other insects

Stay Prepared With:

  • Ice melt for sidewalks
  • Shovels for snow
  • A programmable thermostat to save energy (and money)
  • Firewood for wood burning stoves
  • Winter washer fluid for your car

We think this deserves another pumpkin spice latte!
